Picturesque Portugal- February 2025

7 Days | Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais, and Porto


Spend the week falling in love with Portuguese culture as you wind through historic neighborhoods and enjoy sunset views from spectacular beaches.



This trip is being led by Ms. Jen Hagburg and is available to high school students.


Overview

In Lisbon, explore the medieval Alfama district, try your hand at making traditional azulejos (tiles), and sample the country’s classic egg custard tart, pastéis de nata. On day trips to Sintra and Cascais, take in the palaces and villas. And in Porto, see the Baroque Clérigos Church and climb to the top of its 75-meter-high bell tower, Torre dos Clérigos. Then marvel at the whimsical Livraria Lello, a famous bookstore known for its stained glass ceiling, intricately carved wooden panels, and photo stop-worthy staircase. From the capital to the coast, you’ll experience the magic of the Iberian Peninsula on this guided tour of Portugal.




Day 1: Fly overnight to Portugal

Day 2: Lisbon

  • Meet your Tour Director at the airport

  • Take a walking tour of the Alfama district, Lisbon’s former center of Moorish aristocracy

Day 3: Lisbon

  • Take a guided tour of Lisbon with your expert local guide you will visit: Tower of Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos

  • Stop to take a photo overlooking Lisbon’s iconic red-tiled roofs

  • Visit the Jerónimos Monastery

  • Visit the famous patisserie, Pastéis de Belém, and try the original version of the classic Portuguese egg custard tart

  • Participate in an azulejos tile workshop, where you’ll design your own version of this Portuguese art form

Day 4: Lisbon • Sintra • Cascais

  • Take a day trip to Sintra and Cascais

  • Visit the Palacio Nacional de Sintra

  • Enjoy free time to explore and have dinner in Cascais, once a small fishing town and the summer retreat of Portuguese nobility

Day 5: Lisbon • Porto

  • Take the morning high-speed train to Porto, Portugal’s “second city”

  • Take a walking tour of Porto’s Ribeira neighborhood, part of the city’s Historic Centre, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

  • Cruise through the Douro River Valley

Day 6: Porto

  • Take a guided tour of Porto

  • Visit the Torre dos Clérigos

  • Visit Livraria Lello, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world

  • Stop for a photo of the sunset near the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge

Day 7: Depart for home
